Sawdust Carpets: a special night in the heart of Camaiore

Camaiore is getting ready for one of its most enchanting nights: on Saturday, June 21, the beloved tradition of the Sawdust Carpets returns to the town’s historic center to mark the Feast of Corpus Domini. From Saturday afternoon until dawn on Sunday, the streets will turn into a stunning open-air art gallery.

The main roads — Via Vittorio Emanuele and Via XX Settembre — will be covered with artistic carpets made of vividly colored sawdust, carefully crafted by 17 local groups who come together each year with creativity, skill, and a strong sense of community.

Each design is based on a theme — this year inspired by the 2025 Jubilee — and the sketches were officially presented on June 3 at Cinema Borsalino, during a special preview evening. On that occasion, the audience also enjoyed a brand-new documentary about the history of this centuries-old event, created by the Municipality of Camaiore.

The atmosphere is deeply emotional: hundreds of locals work through the night to create these breathtaking works of art, which will be solemnly walked over during the Sunday morning religious procession — a symbolic gesture that honors both the sacred and the transient nature of beauty.

If you love places where tradition and local culture are still vibrant and shared, Camaiore is a destination worth discovering — and perhaps, even calling home.
