Camaiore Introduces Tourist Tax: A Step Towards Responsible Tourism

20/05/2024

As every year, the central week of Ferragosto transforms the heart of Camaiore into a lively and pulsating stage of history, culture, and tradition. Now in its 43rd edition, "Camaiore d'Altri Tempi" has become a fixture that skillfully blends the charm of the past with the vibrancy of the present. This historic market-exhibition (and much more!) dedicated to the world "of yesteryear" offers visitors the chance to relive a bygone era through objects, sounds, and atmospheres that evoke a time long past but still alive in collective memory.

Vintage in the Streets and Squares

The heart of the event is the antique, modern, and vintage fair, which this year hosts over 80 exhibitors from all over Italy. The main streets and squares of the historic center, from Via Vittorio Emanuele to Piazza Diaz, passing through Piazza San Bernardino, Piazza Romboni, and Piazza XXIX Maggio, are transformed into an open-air market. Here, the past takes shape through works of art, antique furniture, vinyl records, and unique pieces that tell stories of distant eras. It's an emotional journey through memorabilia and memories, where each stall becomes a window to a past that continues to live thanks to the passion of the exhibitors and the interest of the visitors.

Musical Events

However, the event is not limited to the fair alone. Numerous side events enrich the program and make "Camaiore d'Altri Tempi" a unique and engaging experience. Among these, the revival-themed musical evenings stand out, filling Piazza XXIX Maggio with nostalgic notes and dances. Particularly anticipated is the August 14th concert by the Giacomo Puccini Philharmonic, a tribute to the famous Lucchese composer in the centenary year of his death. Music, with its ability to evoke emotions and memories, thus becomes the thread that ties past and present together, reviving the spirit of a bygone era.

 Gran Teatro dei Burattini

Another unmissable event is the Gran Teatro dei Burattini by Adriano Ferraiolo and sons, one of the oldest puppet families in Europe, active since 1860. Two evening shows for both adults and children, offering moments of pure magic. The atmosphere is further enhanced by the presence of a sweet stall that, just like in the old days, prepares candy and nougat on the spot. A trip down memory lane for the taste buds as well, with simple yet authentic flavors that evoke a sense of home and tradition.

Discovering the Territory

Among the side events that enrich the program of the event, the "d'altri tempi" walk from Camaiore to Pedona stands out, a route that winds through the natural and historical beauties of the area. Also, the motorbike rally organized by the Perla del Tirreno Association, scheduled for Sunday, August 11th, and the traditional Tombola di Santa Maria, an event that unites all generations in a simple yet emotionally charged game.

The artistic touch is not to be missed in the event's poster, created once again this year by Maestro Franco Benassi, who with his unmistakable style, always manages to capture the essence of "Camaiore d'Altri Tempi," capturing on paper the unique and unrepeatable atmosphere of this event.

In an era where everything moves fast, "Camaiore d'Altri Tempi" invites us to slow down, to pause and look back, to rediscover the value of traditions and the importance of memory. A fascinating journey through time that reminds us of who we once were and helps us better understand who we are today.
