Murabilia Returns: Lucca Transforms into a Garden City for Three Days

From September 6th to 8th, 2024, the Renaissance walls of Lucca will once again blossom into a captivating garden with the 23rd edition of Murabilia—one of Italy's most renowned horticultural festivals, celebrating the art of gardening and green culture.

Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Lucca’s historic, tree-lined walls, this annual event will host over 200 exhibitors from around the globe, showcasing flowers, plants, cutting-edge ideas, and a rich cultural programme.

A Showcase for Gardening Enthusiasts

With 200 exhibitors from Italy and abroad, Murabilia is a must-attend event for gardening lovers, offering a comprehensive look at the plant world, with a special focus on heritage cultivars and emerging trends. The exhibition spans the city’s historic ramparts—San Regolo, La Libertà—as well as the picturesque Botanical Garden of Lucca, which this year celebrates over two centuries of history.

2024 Theme: "Looking Up to the Sky"

Each year, Murabilia centres around a theme that shapes the event's focus. In 2024, the theme is "Up – Looking Up to the Sky", a tribute to trees and the many species that populate our planet. The choice of theme is timely, as trees play a crucial role in mitigating extreme weather and serve as silent guardians of our environment. Through their care and study, Murabilia encourages visitors to reflect on the warning signs plants give us about climate change and environmental instability.

A Packed Programme of Activities

Murabilia offers a diverse range of activities for all ages. Visitors can take part in hands-on workshops, live demonstrations, and expert-led sessions by leading Italian and international horticulturalists. There’s also a dedicated space for children: Young Gardenin, an initiative to inspire younger generations to respect nature and protect the environment through fun and creative activities.

This year’s line-up includes notable figures from the world of international botany. From the UK, Bleddyn and Sue Winn-Jones will attend, known for their passion for rare species, while French botanist Olivier Colin will also be present. Adding a unique twist, celebrated Italian chef Damiano Carrara, known for his role on *Bake Off Italia*, will make his debut at Murabilia with nature-inspired culinary surprises.

Three Unforgettable Days

Murabilia is more than just a garden show; it’s an immersive experience filled with beauty, discovery, and passion for plants. It’s an opportunity to engage with experts, expand your knowledge, and take home not only a plant or seed, but a greater appreciation of how green spaces are vital to our future.

Mark your calendars! Murabilia in Lucca – Friday 6th, Saturday 7th, and Sunday 8th September 2024.
